ABOUT NAKAYLA
Nakayla McConnaughey is an Advertising/Public Relations and Creative Writing double major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Hussman School of Journalism and Media. She is skilled in social media marketing, creative and technical writing, and reading comprehension. Her career and academic interests are in media relations regarding creative writing and storytelling. She wants to demonstrate the human experience in her work, designing realistic and emotional forms of content.
Nakayla has experience in media production, including creative videos, advertisements, social media graphics, and website creation. She has also written various short stories and is currently in the beginning stages of a novel in preparation for an honors thesis in Fiction Writing. She has worked on various written assignments (e.g., essays, reflections, case studies) individually and collaboratively. Examples of Nakayla’s work can be found on her portfolio page.
A member of UNC’s Dean’s List, Nakayla is dedicated to her studies and learning from her instructors. As an Audience Engagement staff member at the Daily Tar Heel, Nakayla creates social media content and newsletters to attract readers and emphasize important news stories. She is also passionate about serving the community through service and leadership; she is a part of Omega Phi Alpha, a National Service Sorority at UNC.
In her spare time, Nakayla can be found reading, listening to music/podcasts/audiobooks, and spending time with friends and family. She loves animals, specifically her dogs Cori and Wasabi. Movies easily entertain her—put her in front of a screen, and she’ll find something to love.
